Why is our dog called Breakspear?

A light #WhyWednesday today, but an often asked one. Usually phrased “where on earth did you get that name?” we get a lot of questions about our lovely/daft dogs’s name! So today’s why is “Why is your dog called Breakspear?”

One of my favourite books to read the boys* is “Mrs Armitage Queen of the Road” by Quentin Blake. It’s a fantastic tale of a no-nonsense woman who is gifted a car and takes it for a ride with her trusty dog Breakspear. I love Mrs Armitage, she’s great! And Martyn likes to point out that I share her approach to car maintenance!! Anyway, days before we got our everso -cute puppy we had invested in a Kubota all-terrain 4 wheel drive. A tuktuk meets landrover! Possibly my two favourite modes of transport in one! “I really am Queen of the Road now!” I declared as I bounced up and down our field. Jacob recalled this as we dithered over puppy’s name, and chatted about the dog would be coming to work with me as a companion. He excitedly squealed “I know, I know what he’s called…. Breakspear!”

*I’m using present tense because I’m not *quite* ready to accept that my boys are too big for me to read them these books!
