This Summer vs Last Summer

It’s interesting to see what we have this year, in comparison to last year. I take a lot of photographs because as a visual person it’s my ‘go to’ way to recall and learn; so here’s a photo of a bright bridal bouquet from this week, last year. This year my zinnia are desperate for some sun, and my rudbeckia hated the hot dry and are slow to get going…. Last year both were in their element! But I do have sunflowers coming in copious quantities this year, whereas last year I had quite literally a handful having lost hundreds to compost/pests!

I try to tell my wedding couples that I can’t guarantee that what we have one year, will be available the following one… we are beholden to the weather and watch global news reports on floods, fires and heatwaves with rising panic… the extremes we’re facing and trying to grow through are very tricky even if thank goodness it’s not *that* extreme here… but we do grow enough things to always have a beautiful selection of flowers whatever the weather.
