Why I’m growing Sweet Peas this year
I might have to eat my hat…
Why Wednesday this week is about why I’m growing Sweet Peas this year.
There are growers who will have heard me declare “there’s no profit in sweet peas” (and I may still be right ) because they require continual picking to keep them coming and not going to seed, tying in to get nice straight stems and all that requires a lot of time. Slugs and mice love them too. Risky! As a retail business, I’ve not grown them. But with a lot of weddings over the next few months I’ve decided to grow these pretty quintessentially English summer flowers for my premium value work. I’m not selling them retail (ok, maybe in the occasional gift bouquet), nor wholesale… they’re going to add elegance and second-to-none perfume to our weddings.
I think they’ll be worth it. Will I be able to look my friend Forever Green Flower Co in the eye… hmmmm…. I’ll be counting stems Cel! (or eating my hat!)
