Flower Care Tips

In our kitchen we have a big vase that gets the left overs and not sellable stems. It means I get to see how the flowers I’ve sold that week perform in the home. These are 10 days old and are still lovely at this point… the reason for this?

1. Positioned out of direct sunlight

2. In a cool room (we have heating on 2hrs a day and a log burner that is occasionally lit) and positioned well away from the heat of the stove/radiator/cooker.

In my experience these two things are the biggest factors in how long flowers last in a vase. Other things that definitely help:

  • change the water regularly to keep it fresh

  • cut the stems to help them draw up water

  • keep fruit away from your arrangement. Fruit release ethylene that triggers ripening, which is dropping petals etc in flowers.

But if the first two aren’t right, the other things won’t make much of a difference… I say this because I want you to enjoy your flowers for as long as possible!
