British Flowers Week 2021

85% of flowers sold in the U.K. are imported. This week the floristry industry celebrates the flowers grown here. Our flower farming sector is but a fraction of what it once was; large farms are no longer found in all the counties of the country as they struggled to compete with cheaper imports. And yet flowers grown in this country have a fraction (around 10%) of the carbon footprint of their imported counterparts.

It’s not just the carbon footprint, there are issues with water and chemical use, soil degradation and ethical issues that I find too difficult to justify. As a business it’s very important that I develop products that don’t create more problems for a world already in crisis, so I’ve committed to only using British flowers. I want to know where each stem is from and that it’s been grown without harm. I’m proud to be supporting our flower farms, often independent family run businesses, and provide you with more sustainable bouquets all year round.

Buying British flowers is an easy way to reduce your household carbon footprint, support a British industry and enjoy a more seasonal offering. They’re also very, very, joyful….

As a small flower grower-florist I really appreciate your year round support. Thank you,

Harriet x
