My favourite tulips
These are my favourite tulips - Copper image - and they’re in flower this week. They’re luscious. Richly coloured, fading with a vintage vibe. Fill your vases. This moment comes once a year…
Sunday has sold out. Thank you everyone. More to come!
Tremendous thanks to everyone who picked up tulips yesterday; I have picked and wrapped more for today (Sunday)! Earlier in the year I spoke about the issues with tulips from an environmental perspective, which is why we are very much treating these spectacular flowers with the respect that they deserve. They are showstoppers and we want them to be appreciated in all their magnificent glory! We can’t compete on price with the supermarkets, but anyone who has taken a bunch home will realise these are quite a different flower…
From a business perspective tulips are very high risk. They bulbs are expensive to buy, are prone to disease, take a lot of effort to plant and also prepare for sale once picked (we have to wash the stems because the soil gets stuck in the leaves as they grow) and they have an uncanny ability to all flower at once: A sunny spring can be disasterous! This year the dreadful weather is helping stagger their flowers - wahoo an advantage to this shocking weather, I knew there was one! - but we are very grateful to you for coming out of your way to our flower stand for a bunch or two! We are working so hard to have affordable sustainable flowers for your homes, as well as weddings and funerals this year, and we’re incredibly grateful for your continuing support. As with all small businesses pioneering a different way of doing things from the mainstream, our ability to continue doing what we do is down to our brilliant customers. Thank you so much
